In 1973, the session of Bethany Presbyterian Church initiated a “seed fund” for the use of its manse, located at 2984 Dewey Avenue, as a Community Resource Center. In January of 1994 the then, Associate Pastor, in conjunction the Church and Community Mission Committee (C&CM) developed a proposal for the use of “2984”. Under the philosophy “Dare to Dream.” Potential programs were identified based on input obtained through neighborhood surveys, meetings with public school representatives and community leaders. As a result, an after school program aimed at elementary age children was identified.

2004 we opened a computer lab that enables academic and recreational use of computer technology. 2004 established the weekly Cultural Arts program enabling students to participate in and learn from local artisans, and events.
2006 made a commitment to integrate healthy living education in all programs with a focus on nutrition education and fitness.

2007 Established the Family Night program enabling parents to learn with their children about the benefits of good nutrition and fitness. Continued the Cultural Arts and After School Homework Assistance Program for 22 students.
2008 Opened the Summer Program for five weeks to 20 neighborhood youth
2009 Expanded the Family Night program to 10 gatherings a year with the dual purpose of integrating illness prevention and treatment education with our healthy living focus.
2009 Adopted the Operation Dough-Nation program to distribute Panera Bread Company products to our neighborhood families.
Summer 2009 Expanded the Summer Education Day Camp program to serve 50 students who have completed grades Kindergarten - 5th.
Fall 2009 Expanded the After School Homework Assistance Program to a second site in Bethany Presbyterian Church, doubled enrollment to 40 students and expanded service to include 1st - 5th graders. In addition to Longridge Elementary School the program serves English Village and Lakeshore Elementary schools. A second computer lab was opened through a grant from BJ's Foundation.
